About Crowborough
Crowborough is the largest inland town in East Sussex, set in the High Weald, an area of outstanding natural beauty and bordering the Ashdown Forest. The town sits midway between Tunbridge Wells in Kent and Uckfield, East Sussex, with easy access to the coast and London.
Crowborough is well served with excellent supermarket shopping as well as numerous small independent shops, restaurants and cafes. There are three doctor’s surgeries within the town and a small hospital for minor accidents and longer-term recuperation.
By way of interest, the town’s most famous resident, who lived at Windlesham Manor, was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes.
For those more active, there is a leisure centre including a gym and large indoor swimming pool together with a sports hall and the facilities for a number of outdoor sports. Also within the town there are two golf courses as well as a thriving tennis club.
Culturally, there is a well-established arts club, a community centre, many societies ranging from rambling to Christmas fairs, an annual bonfire night and a street carnival held in early September.
