Crowborough Almshouses Charity
From 1st January 2026 the Crowborough almshouses will have a new charity name , being, Crowborough Almshouses Charity and a new status, becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. This change of name from Mrs de Lannoy & Haven Homes Almshouse Charity has been agreed by the Charity Commission as well as the trustees, and gives the charity a recognisable link to the name of the town.
Furthermore, while the general public and the almshouse residents will see little change, becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation gives additional flexibility to the trustees, not dis-similar to a limited company but not subject to company regulations, and enables the charity to enter into contracts in its own name rather than those of the trustees. In the event that we secure an opportunity to increase our almshouse portfolio, this flexibility will be helpful.
The charity registration number is: 1213244 and further details can be found on the Charity Commission website.
Changing these long-held historic names of the original charities, Mrs de Lannoy and Haven Homes will still be retained in respect of the properties; Mrs de Lannoy cottages at The Cross, Beacon Road and Haven Homes situated in Beeches Road and East Beeches ensuring that their historical significance is not lost.
